Turn off Windows Firewall in XP with SP2

If you are using a third-party firewall or if your PC is not connected
to the Internet and therefore you don’t need one, you can disable
the Firewall included in Service Pack 2 for Windows XP.

Click on ‘Start | Control panel’ and then click the ‘security center’ icon.

Now click on the ‘Windows  Firewall’ icon, select ‘Off (not recommended)’
and click ‘OK’.
Now once you turn off the Windows Firewall, you will continuously keep
getting an error at the bottom right hand corner of your screen.  To get
rid of it, click on the balloon, or on the red shield. This will take you to
the screen below, now click on the ‘Recommendations..’ button.

Click and check the ‘i have a firewall solution that i will monitor myself’
box and click ‘OK’.
Once you click ‘OK’,  you will get a screen mentioning that windows will not
monitor your firewall settings. Simply close the window.
